There
are many occasions upon which the
Galapagos
Islands have
been recognized as one of the greatest places in the world
for scuba diving. Several dive magazines and organizations
have established Galapagos as one of the most spectacular
diving destinations in the world, like in the Rodale's Reader's
Choice Awards, 2000:
Best
Value: 87.5 (bellow Egyptian Red Sea with 87.8)
Best Fish Life: 93.8 (number one)
Healthiest Marine Environment: 93.8 (number one)
Best Big Animal Dives: 100 (number one)
Best Advanced Diving: 100 (tied with Papua New Guinea)

For
those interested in diving in
Galapagos, there are basically
2 ways,
Live Aboard Cruises and
Land
Based Diving Tours, each one has their attractiveness, level of expertise,
but of course, price depends on the category of services.
It
is important to notice that most of the good diving sites
have strong currents, surge and cold waters. Most
dives are drifts along the cliff faces of offshore rocks
and pinnacles, so scuba diving in the
Galapagos
Islands it is not recommended for beginners.
Here some good guidelines
for a diver level:
Beginners: Newly certified divers or divers with few dives
logged (3 to 15 dives)
Intermediate: 15 to 50 dives logged with experience in
cold water and with drift and wall diving
Advanced: 100 dives or more logged with experience in cold
water and with drift and wall diving
