Day 01: QUITO - COTOPAXI
Early departure from Quito to the south through the imposing Avenue of the Volcanoes until we reach Hacienda El Porvenir. After being greeted with a traditional tea welcome, we’ll have a brief riding lesson as we get acquainted with the horses. Wearing the typical “Chagra” attire, we will ride to the foothills of Rumiñahui volcano. Our native guides will share their knowledge of medicinal plants and we will admire brave bulls, local birds, wild fauna, and the marvelous landscape of the Ecuadorian highlands. We will be quite close to the peaks of Rumiñahui volcano and, if we are lucky, we may get the chance to admire the majestic Andean condor. Then we ride along the lower slopes of Rumiñahui, and after visiting Chusigmachai and the Condormachai, we return to the farmhouse. Box lunch will be provided during the ride. The ride will take about 4.5 hours. This evening will be spent at a traditional Colonial Hacienda of the area. (L, D)
Day 02: COTOPAXI – ILINIZAS - QUITO
After breakfast, depart by jeep to Pastocalle, located at the foothills of the Ilinizas Twin Peaks. We start biking through the highlands, down a dirt road that leads to the valley and the small town of Chaupi. Along the way, enjoy excellent views of the Ilinizas, Corazón, Sincholagua and many other surrounding volcanoes. Continue the journey following the old train tracks passing old train stations, farmlands and small colonial towns. Return to Quito in the afternoon. (B, L)
